Foley & Lardner LLP and Johnson Controls International, two leaders in intellectual property, have partnered to create the Johnson Controls – Foley IP Law Fellowship for current first-year law students interested in pursuing a career in intellectual property law.

The fellowship combines two outstanding summer internships followed by an opportunity to become a new IP associate at Foley & Lardner LLP. The JCI-Foley Fellow will spend the summer following the first year of law school, 10 weeks beginning in May/June of 2025, at Johnson Control's corporate headquarters in Milwaukee, WI. If the JCI-Foley Fellow performs well during the first summer at Johnson Controls, the Fellow will join Foley's Summer Associate Program as a 2L summer associate, for 10 weeks beginning in May/June of 2026, in Foley's Milwaukee office (or other agree-to Foley office). Following a successful completion of the 2026 Summer Associate Program, the JCI-Foley Fellow will have the opportunity to join Foley & Lardner LLP as a new associate in the fall after law school graduation.

Eligible applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and completed one year at an ABA-accredited law school. Continued enrollment in a JD program, with an emphasis on intellectual property, must be shown. Preference will be given to students with engineering or scientific backgrounds (either career, education, or both). A minimum undergraduate and law school GPA of 3.0 is required.
