Barnes & Thornburg LLP's Environmental Law Department is searching for an Environmental Regulatory Associate with 2-6 years of environmental law experience for our Indianapolis office. Our nationally recognized practice includes sophisticated environmental regulatory, counseling, and transactional work for a wide range of industrial, energy, commercial, financial and municipal clients. The Associate will work on a broad array of matters, in different contexts and forums, covering traditional environmental media (water, land, air) as well as emerging, cutting-edge issues. The ideal candidate should possess strong academic credentials, excellent writing and analytical skills, demonstrate initiative, as well as the interpersonal skills to work well as part of a collaborative team and be able to assume direct responsibility for client matters.

Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years of experience in environmental law and regulatory compliance
  • Familiarity with federal and state environmental agencies such as EPA, DOE, DOI, etc.
  • Knowledge of and background in environmental statutes and regulations, including CERCLA, CWA, CAA, CFA, EPA, NEPA, RCRA, TSCA
  • Admitted to practice in either IN or MI or be eligible to waive into either state

Responsibilities:
  • Provide advice and counseling on compliance matters related to environmental regulatory laws and statutes
  • Keep up to date with and advise on emerging environmental issues
  • Advise on liability exposure
  • Negotiate and draft recovery and compliance agreements
  • Conduct environmental due diligence related to M&A deals
