The Arnold & Porter 1L Los Angeles Diversity and Inclusion Fellowship will be awarded to a first-year law student whose values and experiences align with the firm's commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession. The Arnold & Porter 1L Los Angeles Diversity and Inclusion Fellow will be awarded:
  • A 10-week paid summer associate position in the Los Angeles office.
  • A $10,000 scholarship to be used for 2L year.
  • A $5,000 award to be used for 3L year, provided the student has received and accepted an offer to join the Summer Associate program for a minimum of eight weeks during their 2L summer.

Criteria
  • Candidates must be a first-year law student in good standing pursuing a Juris Doctor degree at an ABA-accredited law school in California.
  • Candidates must have a strong academic record as well as experience that demonstrates great promise for a successful career in the legal profession.
  • Candidate must demonstrate how they meaningfully contribute to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion at their law school or legal community and commit to continued contributions upon entering the legal profession.
  • The fellowship is open to all eligible applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or any other protected identity or status.

Procedure
  • Applicants must submit a current resume, official law school transcript*, and a personal statement that goes beyond their resume and describes their unique personal history.

Application Period
Applications will be accepted beginning December 2024.

If your law school has not released first semester grades by the application deadline, you may submit your application without your law school transcript. We will follow up to request an updated transcript, if needed.
